Taste is simple, matching the straightforward suggestions of the aroma. TASTE & TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, soft, on the light side of medium-bodied, slightly overcarbonated, somewhat refreshing. No overt hop bitterness whatsoever here.just hop flavour and juicy tropical fruit seemingly. ~5 minute retention.ĪROMA: Vivid passion fruit, tropical fruit juice, pale malt sweetness. Pink and white label.ĪPPEARANCE: Slightly hazy pale copper body. But I saw this at $5.99 per sixer in New York and had to pull the trigger (after verifying the canned on date wasn't too far out).ĬAN: 12 fl oz. Having grown up in Colorado drinking Oskar Blues, I found the Bourbon Barrel Ten Fidy put out by the North Carolina production brewery vastly inferior to that of the Colorado brewery, and swore off buying Oskar Blues while living on the East Coast thereafter. Finish was tart & dry & despite its relatively low ABV, I could not envision this as something with which I would want to fill a cooler. Even better was the development of loads of dense, sticky lacing that would require a jackhammer to remove at some point. I am not a huge fan of tart & sour beers, but this worked for me in an AIPA. Instead, the tartness caused a mild puckering of my lips that I actually found enjoyable. It had a definite citrusiness, but unlike anything in recent memory. The taste was moderately tart, initially, surprising me since I expected sweetness, based on the nose. Nose had a perfume-y citrusiness that I could not put my finger on, but knowing from the label what the adjunct was, I bought into it. Color was a slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). My gentleness was still bringing forth a LOT of foaming, so I went with the program, already in progress, to create a foamy, rocky mound of dense, bone-white head with quite good retention.

Well, not dangerous, but prone to spillage & I try to avoid messes at all costs these days. It did mean, however, that it was going to be a nice, gentle Glug since such CANs CAN be dangerous. No problem since I CAN cover almost anything, having seen almost everything. so I gave it a few moments to settle, revealing another brimful craft CAN with nowhere for the tongue to go upon opening. The Crack! released some foaming action through the vent. I promise to make up for lost time today as I sit around and CANtemplate my future, especially as The CANQuest (tm) is CANcerned.įrom the CAN: "Sip, Sip, Pass" "coloRADo, USA" "CAN I Be Blunt?" "Pack It In, Pack It Out". I had to work my seCANd shift job yesterday, which only gave me the stamina to take on one DIPA before departure. It also makes great swag for your variety-loving craft beer buds.I am CANtinuing to celebrate #IPADay2017, albeit a day later. CANundrum will now include the iconic Dale’s Pale Ale, the crisp Mama’s Little Yella Pils, the peaty smooth Old Chub Scotch Ale, and the 4.9 percent ABV PINNER IPA.ĬANundrum gives chronic CAN’d craft beer drinkers a way to pack in four different Oskar Blues brews at music festivals, trail side, or the lake. PINNER will join the mixed-pack, CANundrum, in February for national distribution, making that a hotbox of Oskar Blues beers. PINNER will be brewed in both home states of ColoRADo and North Carolina and initially distributed just in Oskar Blues’ backyards. “With the lower ABV, layers of flavor build on one another–with one sip citrus, the next sip pineapple, next sip papaya, next sip passion fruit, next sip toasted bread–and then on to the next pint.”ĭry-hopping with several different heady hops, including a killer experimental variety, gives PINNER this tropical, stoned fruit aroma with hints of pine and smooth malt in the flavor. “Many things contribute to flavor in beer, and with Pinner it’s a focus on hops and malt–with a considerable nod to the hops,” says Oskar Blues ColoRADo head brewer Tim Matthews. To put it bluntly, PINNER will be the lowest year-round ABV beer to blaze out of Oskar Blues’ brewhouses. Coming in at 4.9 percent ABV and 35 IBUs, this primo dry-hopped brew will be easy to throw back. PINNER will be released first in Oskar Blues’ home states of ColoRADo and North Carolina in mid-December. Oskar Blues is adding PINNER Throwback IPA to the brewery’s year-round lineup of beers in 12-ounce CANs and on draft.
